Copyright law protects original works of literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic authorship. A copyright will entitle an author to a time-constrained bundle of exclusive rights that includes: reproduction, distribution, performance, transmission, display, and the preparation of derivative works.
In general, the term of a copyright is for the life of the author plus 70 years after the author's death; works for hire (corporations and other similar arrangements) and anonymous works are protected for 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation, whichever is shorter.
